First Birthday in Heaven~32
Dear Friends,
We all remember Jeff being a hard core competitor, loyal friend, commedian, and entertainer with a rock star voice. What others may have noticed is what really set Jeff apart, that was his love and concern for the underdogs of this world. A little background on Jeff...
The Glenmeade Elementry School special needs teacher called me one afternoon. She simply wanted to share this story. A certain student was wheeled up to Jeff's lonely desk that was off to the side. When she returned, she saw Jeff holding the boys hand, helping him draw with a crayon. At the same time Jeff was carefully catching the saliva, as it escaped from this little boys mouth, by the handkerchief in which his mother most likely placed around his neck that morning before sending him off to school.
The special needs teacher called that day just to tell me how touched she was when she had seen this. "No other student has shown more empathy than this. "It was a first in her career. We all knew Jeff was special indeed and had a heart of gold. It was evident in our family, yes a little Bart Simpson, but we all knew even Bart had a soft spot in his heart.
Fast forward to Jeff's adulthood. Jeff was always the first to approach a homeless person or stranger who needed love, weather it was to share a smoke, a meal, a few words. This is who he was. Talking about getting involved in Special Olympics two years ago to help teach baseball, golf or tennis played heavy on our hearts. We never took that first step, except to register. So in honoring Jeff on his 32 birthday, this time in Heaven, we extend this invitation in joining our family and friends in achieving this dream, to reach beyond ourselves and serve others.
Please consider showing your support for Special Olympics Southern California. If you've been encouraged by what we call "The Jeff Effect", consider registering with the Special Olympics at https://www.sosc.org; help train athletes, lend support day of the Olympics, or planned giving. Every dollar raised by Special Olympics not only provides equipment, uniforms, and training for our athletes, but also gives them empowerment, joy, and improved health!
